Academy Program: U9-U10

The Academy Program is a pre-competitive program that is a perfect fit for the younger U9 and U10 player, regardless of ability, who is committed to becoming a better soccer player and has a passion for the sport. The program is designed to prepare players for competitive soccer which starts at U11.

Training Philosophy (7v7):

Technical/Tactical:

  • High focus on 1v1 - 7v7 training games
  • Ability to connect and combine with teammates in small groups.
  • Highly cognitive - players will scan, choose, do in every activity.
  • Emphasis on 'staying on the ball'. It all starts with ability to dribble the ball. A dribble first mindset will pay dividends in the long team- we want to create creative, intelligent players who are confident and fearless on the ball.
  • Begin to introduce game principles.

 Social:

  • Develop a positive team atmosphere and environment.
  • Engagement of parents within the process.

Psychological:

  • Develop a love and passion for the game.
  • Culture of self-play and practice.
  • Training will encourage creativity and risk taking.

Games:

Academy teams play in the Colorado Soccer Front Range League. U9 & U10 teams play 7v7 format with 8 games per season, 4 home and 4 away games. All home games are played at Kullerstrand Elementary. Away games are played at locations on the Front Range. Games are refereed by a certified referee, but due to a shortage of referees, a referee is not guaranteed. Academy teams usually participate in one tournament per season.

Trainings:

Academy teams train two times per week with optional (but highly recommended) age group trainings on Fridays. These extra sessions focus on individual skill sets and development of the player.

Commitment:

The Academy program is a one-year commitment that runs from August to May.
